Badge Installation guidelines

Proper preparation of the car’s paint before installing an emblem is crucial for ensuring a secure bond and a professional appearance. Follow these steps for optimal results:

Tools and Materials Needed

Cleaning & Surface Prep

• Car wash soap

• Microfiber towels

• Clay bar & clay lubricant

• Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) 70% or higher

• Adhesive remover (if necessary)

Marking & Alignment

• Masking tape

• Measuring tape or ruler

Final Preparation

• Adhesion promoter (optional)

• Lint-free cloth

1. Wash the Area Thoroughly

• Clean the section of the car where the emblem will be installed using car wash soap and water.

• Rinse thoroughly and dry with a microfiber towel to prevent water spots.

2. Remove Any Old Adhesive or Wax

• If replacing an old emblem, use an adhesive remover to eliminate any leftover adhesive.

• If the area has wax or sealant, wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol to remove any residue.

3. Clay Bar the Surface

• Apply clay lubricant and gently rub a clay bar over the area to remove embedded contaminants.

• Wipe clean with a microfiber towel.

4. Mark the Position for Alignment

• Measure and mark the ideal position using masking tape as a guideline.

• Use a ruler or level to ensure proper alignment.

• Make light marks with a grease pencil if needed.

5. Final Surface Cleaning

• Wipe the area with isopropyl alcohol to remove any remaining oils or debris.

• Let it air dry completely.

6. Apply Adhesion Promoter (Optional)

• If the emblem has a 3M adhesive backing, applying an adhesion promoter can improve bonding tremendously.

• Use a lint-free cloth to apply a thin layer and let it dry.

7. Ready for Emblem Installation

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that the surface is properly prepared, follow these steps to ensure a secure and professional emblem installation.

Tools and Materials Needed

• New emblem with adhesive backing or emblem adhesive

• Heat gun or hairdryer (optional)

• Masking tape

• Soft microfiber towel

Step-by-Step Emblem Installation Process

1. Dry Fit the Emblem

• Before removing any backing, hold the emblem in place to ensure proper fit and alignment.

• Adjust if necessary using your previously marked guidelines.

2. Peel Off the Adhesive Backing

• Carefully remove the adhesive backing from the emblem, ensuring not to touch the sticky side to avoid contamination.

3. Apply the Emblem to the Surface

• Align the emblem with the masking tape guides.

• Gently place it against the surface without pressing too hard to allow for minor adjustments.

4. Press and Hold Firmly

• Once satisfied with the alignment, press firmly on the emblem for at least 30–60 seconds.

• Apply even pressure across the entire surface to ensure a strong bond.

• If the emblem has protruding areas, ensure each section makes full contact with the paint.

5. Use Heat for Stronger Adhesion (Optional)

• If installing in cold weather below 70 degrees Fahrenheit , gently heat the emblem and surface with a hairdryer or heat gun on a low setting.

• This helps activate the adhesive and improves bonding.

• Do not overheat; warm to the touch is sufficient.

6. Remove Masking Tape and Final Check

• Slowly remove any masking tape and double-check the alignment.

• Wipe away any fingerprints or smudges with a microfiber towel.

7. Allow Time for Adhesive to Cure

• Avoid washing the car or exposing the emblem to excessive moisture for at least 24 hours.

• Adhesives typically take 24–48 hours to fully cure for maximum strength.

Final Tips for Longevity

• Periodically check the emblem to ensure it remains secure, especially after car washes.
